Training Offered

1. “Civil Mediation Basic Training”

For Beginning Civil Mediators

This training is typically 40-hours, as required by SCAO (Supreme Court [of Michigan] Administrative Office) for placement on civil court Mediator rosters. Also, the training can be tailored for other states and/or to shorter increments for those seeking general civil Mediation training in a briefer format. The program introduces the basic tenets of the Mediation process. Participants learn how to conduct a civil Mediation from beginning to end. This interactive training entails demonstrations, role plays, exercises, feedback from experienced Mediator coaches and more.

 

 

2. “Domestic Relations Mediation Basic Training”

For Beginning Domestic Mediators preferably with Basic Civil Mediation Training

This training is typically 40-hours as required by SCAO (Supreme Court [of Michigan] Administrative Office) for placement on domestic court Mediator rosters. Also, the training can be tailored for other states and/or to shorter increments for those seeking domestic Mediation training in a briefer format. The program introduces the basic tenets of the domestic Mediation process. The participants learn how to conduct a domestic Mediation from beginning to end. This interactive training entails demonstrations, role plays, exercises, feedback from experienced Mediator coaches and more.

 

3. “Agreement Writing in Mediation”

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

This 90-minute training is well suited for a lunchtime learning session or some similar mini-training. It reinforces the importance of drafting clear, specific and thorough Mediation agreements and teaches participants how to effectively do so.  The participants will learn various approaches to optimal drafting skills as well as proofread and draft Mediation Agreements.

4. “Revelations From a Mediator’s Bag of Tricks”

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

This 2-hour training is designed to equip Mediators with multiple skills to address issues such as high conflict, impasse, communication barriers, imbalances of power in Mediations, etc. This interactive training includes exercises, group discussions, handouts, powerpoint presentations, role plays and more. Students will learn while being challenged to take their Mediation skills to a higher level.

 

5. “50 Ways to Leave Impasse”

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

This 2-hour or 4-hour training addresses the sticking points and other challenges that parties can encounter in Mediations. It offers a wide variety of impasse strategies to move beyond the obstacles that frequently inhibit resolution. This interactive training includes exercises, group discussions, handouts, powerpoint presentations, role plays and more. Students will learn while being challenged to take their Mediation skills to a higher level.

 

 

6. “Generating Options for Effective Solutions”

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

This is a 2-hour presentation to help Mediators develop skills to stimulate parties to generate options to resolve their own conflicts. The training is highly interactive and involves role plays, exercises, and demonstrations.

 

 

7. “Demolishing the 10 Biggest Roadblocks to a Successful Mediation”

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

This 8-hour training is designed to address common obstacles to a successful Mediation such as loss of neutrality, problematic attorneys, timing issues, party trust issues and more. This interactive training involves role plays, group discussions, demonstrations, and exercises.

 

8. “Increasing Your Effectiveness at the Mediation Table”

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

This 8-hour training is intended to teach participants how to advance and develop their skills in the Mediation process.  Topics covered include structuring the mediation, addressing communication issues, Mediator ethics and more. The training is highly interactive an involves role plays, exercises, handouts, and demonstrations.

9. “Multi-Party Mediation Training”

For Mediators/Facilitators with Basic Mediation Training

This 8-hour training is intended to develop skills for Mediators handling 3, 4 or more parties in a Mediation. The program emphasizes the unique challenges that may arise with multiple parties such as identifying stakeholders, organizing the process, consensus building, etc. Participants will engage in role plays, exercises, group discussions, and other practical activities.

 

10. “Show me the Money”  (Unabridged)

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

A highly interactive 8-hour training on how Mediators can more effectively address money issues in Mediations.  This training includes exercises, handouts, powerpoint presentations, role plays and more. Students will learn while being challenged to take their Mediation skills to a higher level.

 

 

11. “Show me the Money”  (Abridged)

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

This is a 90-minute version of the unabridged training described above. It addresses the same issues of how to get past impasse on money issues, but is better suited for a lunchtime learning session or some similar mini-training.  The presentation is interactive and highlights the keys skills identified in the more extensive unabridged version of the training.

 

 

 

12. “Attorneys as Allies in Mediation”

For Mediators with Basic Mediation Training

This 2-hour or 4-hour training will explore ways to effectively interact with counsel for parties in Mediations. Topics covered include the importance of remaining neutral, fair and objective to maintain the trust of Mediation participants and of respecting confidentiality and attorney and Mediator ethical obligations. This interactive training includes exercises, group discussions, handouts, powerpoint presentations, role plays and more. Participants will learn while being challenged to take their Mediation skills to a higher level.

13. “Med/Arb—How it Works and How to Use it Effectively”

For Mediators and Arbitrators with Basic Mediation Training and Arbitration Experience

This 4-hour training teaches Mediators and Arbitrators how to combine the two processes when desired and appropriate. Participants will explore and practice effective transitions from Mediations to Arbitrations and vice versa. The training will also address the consequences and ethics of combining the two processes and possible pitfalls. Trainers will demonstrate learning tools for effectively shifting from one process to the other, while Participants will observe, critique and practice various stages of Med/Arbs.

 

 

14. “Upping your Game: Keys to Reviving Your ADR Practice”

For Mediators, Arbitrators and other ADR Professionals

This 90-minute training will focus on ways to further develop your ADR practice including but not limited to entering new markets, expanding your client base, getting on ADR rosters, increasing your skill set and more.  The training will be interactive and involves group discussions, handouts, brainstorming and more.

 

 

15. “Winning in Mediations, Arbitrations & More: Effective Advocacy in ADR”  

For Attorneys

This 2 or 4-hour training is for attorneys who want to be more effective advocates when appearing for their clients in Mediations, Arbitrations, Case Evaluations, and other forms of ADR. Participants will learn how to write an effective summary, how to prepare clients for ADR processes and how to more effectively communicate with Mediators, Arbitrators and/or Case Evaluator.  The training will include exercises, role plays, handouts and more for a highly interactive session.

 

 

16. “Mediating for Community Groups, Religious Institutions, and other Public Policy Organizations”

For Businesses, Construction Projects, Non-Profits, and Governmental entities.

This 8-hour training will focus on the unique issues involved with mediating political, intra-organizational personal, highly charged and other issues in various public, private or community entities. Emphasis will be placed on minimizing conflicts once they evolve, planning for large group Mediations and reaching resolutions of organizational disputes. Team building and collaborative negotiation will be discussed, demonstrated and practiced.  The training will use interactive teaching methods to convey skills for use in large group disputes to participants.

 

 

17. “Conflict Coaching for Organizations”

For Unions, Businesses, Employers/Human Resource personnel, Non-Profits, and Governmental entities.

This 8-hour or 16-hour training program offers skills to public and private entities to prevent conflict within their organizations that may decrease morale, effectiveness, and productivity. This interactive training will be designed to recognize and address the types of conflicts unique to your organization. The training will include role plays, exercises, group discussions, handouts, powerpoint presentations, and more. Participants will learn how to diffuse conflicts and improve communication within their organizational settings.

 

18. “Diversity Dialogue”

For Mediators, Advocates, Businesses, Non-Profits, and Governmental entities.

This 2-hour or 4-hour training will explore methods for effective communication in conflicts involving diverse parties. This effective dialogue will include, among other things, promoting collaboration, encouraging participation, seeking out commonalities, encouraging open-mindedness and more. This interactive training will include practice scenarios, large and small group discussions, handouts and other learning tools.

 

19. “Cultural Diversity Training”

For Mediators, advocates, businesses, non-profits, and governmental entities.

This 8-hour training program offers a non-confrontational approach to increasing and enhancing cultural competence.  Types of diversity addressed may include cultural, racial, gender, physical or mental ability, socioeconomic background, age, sexual preference, religion, national origin, etc. Participants will experience interactive learning such as role plays, exercises, demonstrations and more. 

20. “Everybody Talks: Youth Mediation Training”

For schools, youth groups and/or youth organizations

This 20-hour training for youth, teachers, administrators, counselors and other adults working with youth teaches basic Mediation skills tailored to the age of the participants. Trainees will learn how youth should conduct a mini-mediation to resolve issues that may arise between their peers. The participants will be provided with tools to assist them in conducting and/or overseeing Mediations and will be given an opportunity to practice with those tools.  The training will be interactive and lively while developing important Mediation skills and knowledge.

 

21. “Boot Camp for Domestic Mediators: Family Law from A to Z”

For Mediators with an interest in improving their skills in domestic cases.

This highly interactive SCAO approved 8-hour advanced Domestic Relations Mediation Training focuses on topics regarding Domestic Relations Mediation.  Among the topics, the program covers are Parenting time, Child custody, Child support, Spousal support, Property distribution, and handling of Debt.  The training format includes large and small group discussions, role-plays and question/answer segments. The goal of this training is to assist mediators who may not have a strong legal background in domestic relations law to become more comfortable with the legal issues, terminology, and nuances of family law mediations.
